IOT Based Ambience Monitoring System

Overview

The IOT Ambiance Monitoring system is designed to monitor the environmental aspects of its surroundings . It is equipped to monitor the temperature, humidity, air quality and noise. It sends this data to its mobile application. It has  tremendous  potential as it can be upgraded and equipped with more sensors which will increase its capabilities .Therefore it can be of use in the industrial sector , mining sector , hospitals , offices , military etc.

Hardware Used

NodeMCU ESP8266

NodeMCU is an open-source firmware and development kit that helps you to prototype or build IoT product.  It includes firmware which runs on the ESP8266 Wi-Fi SoC from Espressif Systems, and hardware which is based on the ESP-12 module. The firmware uses the Lua scripting language.

Mq135 Air Quality Sensor

MQ135 gas sensor is highly sensitive to Ammonia, Sulfide, Benze, smoke and other harmful gases. It’s low cost and suitable for Air quality monitoring application.

DHT11 Temperature and Humidity Sensor

DHT11 Temperature and Humidity Sensor features a calibrated digital signal output with the temperature and humidity sensor capability. It is integrated with a high performance 8-bit microcontroller.

Sound Sensor

Sound sensors work by detecting differences in air pressure and transforming them into electrical signals.  Sound sensors such as microphones usually have built-in amplifiers that increase the strength of the incoming signal.

The Android Application

The app made with this project displays and plots real time Temperature, Humidity ,Air Quality, Sound. This is made possible because the app is connected to a real time online Firebase database which is also connected with the micro controller and takes real time values ,hence the real time values can be displayed and graphed on the phone.

Flow of Data

The environmental factors are first measured by the sensors and sending it to the ESP-8266 micro controller. If the micro controller is connected to a WiFi connection then the readings are transmitted to the online database Firebase. This data can be accessed by any android device with the app and an internet connection.
